The rural location of Crest Strategic’s scheme near Swindon provided significant off-site challenges. Crest’s trust in TriConnex’s delivery, based on our previous success at their 2,500 unit scheme at Bewbush, Sussex, was further reinforced with the off-site works being completed three weeks early, ensuring show home opening dates were easily met.
The rural location of the site meant that limited power was available from the existing electricity network. Two HV electricity connections were required with a route totalling 3.5km, of this 2.5km was off-site. The off-site route comprised 1 km through existing residential streets and 1.5km around Swindon’s arterial ring road. Due to local authority restrictions a 10 week window for the works was identified.
After extensive design work and site investigation to establish a targeted route, TriConnex engaged with all parties and agreed a detailed programme for works with an associated comprehensive traffic management plan.
A cable lay of 3.5 km inclusive of a 40m directional drill, bridge and culvert crossings were completed by multiple teams with minimal disruption to local residents and traffic. The installation was delivered three weeks ahead of schedule, in conjunction with Crest’s Section 278 works and a new medium pressure gas main.
